Oh, my, there's so much here to explore! Thanks for sharing, Lisa. I am chuckling over the name change from the original "State Lunatic Hospital" to "Danvers Insane Hospital." I can't decide which one is worse!
Yes. Melrose is great place to stay to be between Salem and Boston. Every guest takes in Salem! LOL Great you are expressing your creative side thru writing, Good Luck with it all. Hope you and the family are all doing well
Danvers is by far the spookier town. I drive through it regularly and it has a VIBE. Not to mention the old Danvers State Hospital you can just make out from 95N. The town is smart not to capitalize on its spookiness, I think. Some things are better left alone!
Interesting. I thought the Salem Village Parsonage would be spooky but it was quite peaceful. The old Danvers State Hospital, though--THAT sounds spooky.
Thank you, Donny. Wow, your Airbnb is already booked up for October, 2024? Good for you, another beneficiary of Salem's success in selling itself as the Halloween Capital of the World!
Great post! Interesting read... thanks for putting the witch thing in perspective. And, oh my goodness, the photo of the cat! Too funny.
The owners were definitely more enthusiastic about the walk than the cat was.
The timeline alone is enough to give anyone the creeps, but the pictures are right out of gothic horror stories: https://www.danversstatehospital.org/timeline

I like the original name of the place best & can think of many people I'd send there.
